November marks Islamophobia Awareness Month. With hate crimes against Muslims on the rise, this month’s campaign could not come at a more important time.

I am in routine contact with Bedfordshire Police about the situation locally. If you have experienced a hate crime, please report it to the police if you can or if you want it reported on your behalf, speak to any of my team, the leadership in your place of worship or organisations like Tell Mama (0800 456 1226 / info@tellmamauk.org).

We need meaningful action to tackle Islamophobia – and that must start with adopting a clear definition. I’ve repeatedly called on the Government to adopt a definition. Ministers cannot begin to tackle a problem they haven’t properly defined.
